Soothing Drinks Series – Spicy Lemon Honey Tonic

Lately, I have been on a “soothing drink” kick. Since I don’t drink coffee or tea (or any caffeine for that matter – I know – I’m crazy) I have been on a mission to find yummy, cleansing, warming and just soothing hot morning beverages. I have tried over a dozen so far and continue to try out new ones every week. I decided to use the blog to share the most amazing, delicious and healthy soothing drinks I have found so far. Each week, I will be featuring a new soothing drink that I have personally tried, tested and given my seal of approval.

This week, I am going to start with the Spicy Lemon Honey Tonic. All of the ingredients work perfectly together to create a flavorful and spicy morning (or afternoon!) tonic.

Spicy Lemon Honey Tonic
1 ounce of fresh ginger
Juice of 1/4-1/2 lemon
2 teaspoons honey
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Peel the ginger with a vegetable peeler and then cut into 4 chunks. Place in a saucepan with 1 ¼ cups water. Let it boil for about 10 minutes.
Pour the water from the saucepan into a mug, leaving the chunks of ginger in the saucepan.
Stir in the lemon juice, honey, and if you like it extra spicy, cayenne pepper.

I personally like to add extra lemon juice and I have yet to try it with the cayenne pepper because I am a big chicken! If anyone tries it with the cayenne, please let me know how it goes in the comments below!

No caffeine at all??? You crazy chica 😉 But hey – with tasty concoctions like this, who needs caffeine? This looks so soothing and yummy. Cannot wait to make it at home and try it. Thanks for yet another great post!
