When I got a new puppy last year, my first concern was what the heck am I going to feed her? Since I am on a clean eating diet, of course my dog had to be on some sort of clean eating diet as well. How could I be sitting over here eating veggies and protein and then turnaround and feed my dog corn and fillers? No way jose! I researched homemade dog food and discovered a well-rounded clean eating option called “Doggy Stew.” Not only is it cheaper than the healthy dog kibble these days, but it literally takes me 5 minutes to make it in the crockpot every week and a half. This “Doggy Stew” is loaded with fruits and veggies and clean protein for my growing pup.
Man I love Sunday mornings. I love sleeping in, taking the dog for a walk, and then making a delicious breakfast. I’ve had my eye on Deliciously Ella’s Carrot Cake Muffins for quite some time now so I couldn’t wait to try them out. Not only are they absolutely delicious, healthy, and hearty, but the entire house smells like cinnamon and that is a OK with me! Deliciously Ella continues to amaze me when her recipes turn out oh so delicious considering they are always gluten free, vegan and clean eating friendly. You go girl! (do people still say that?)
I L.O.V.E fried rice. I mean small obsession kind of L.O.V.E. However, I usually try to only eat it 2-3 times a year as it is loaded with carbs, calories, and fat. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was when the newest food trend surfaced: cauliflower rice. This fiber-rich, low-carb alternative to rice has changed my world. I am now able to enjoy “fried rice” on a monthly basis without all the carbs and guilt.
So I’m told the first step to recovery is admitting you have an obsession. Well my name is Jackie and I’m obsessed with almond butter (side note: I just realized I need to buy this shirt pronto). More specially, Jason’s Almond Butters. This guy Jason is a genius and adds all sorts of flavors to almond butter that make his butta’s taste insane. A few of my favorite flavors: Vanilla, Honey, and Maple. So what’s the problem, right? Well let me tell you! Almost $13 for one jar! Holy macaroni. I missed the boat on the flavored almond butter business. Also, he adds oils and cane sugar to his butta’s which I always try to avoid with my clean eatingness going on over here. After much experimenting, I am thrilled to bring you flavored almond butter that tastes better and is half the price! I can die happy now. Below are variations of my ridiculously easy 2 ingredient almond butter recipe.
Lately, I have been on a “soothing drink” kick. Since I don’t drink coffee or tea (or any caffeine for that matter – I know – I’m crazy) I have been on a mission to find yummy, cleansing, warming and just soothing hot morning beverages. I have tried over a dozen so far and continue to try out new ones every week. I decided to use the blog to share the most amazing, delicious and healthy soothing drinks I have found so far. Each week, I will be featuring a new soothing drink that I have personally tried, tested and given my seal of approval.
I bet you can’t say that title 10 times fast! After posting the picture of my clean eating, sugar free carrot cake with whipped cream cheese frosting on social media yesterday, I have been getting a ton of requests for the recipe. I have to say hands down, this is one of the best clean eating treats I have ever had as I approach my one year anniversary of clean eating in April. The carrot cake is super moist and flavorful and the whipped cream cheese frosting is up there with Starbucks’ whipped cream (just a heads up this frosting is more whipped cream like vs. thick frosting like – but just as delicious). Without further ado, I present the recipe from one of my favorite clean eating cookbooks: 100 Days of Real Food
In a breakfast rut? Eating the same dang thing for b-fast everyday and want something new and super delicious? I have to start off with a confession: I am over the top obsessed with acai bowls. I love smoothies but I hate “drinking” my breakfast. It just doesn’t seem as satisfying and filling. In comes acai bowls – basically a smoothie in a bowl with granola and extra fruit on top. Straight up genius. Now why didn’t I think of that?
When I get into healthy eating and weight loss/maintenance mode, I tend to rely heavily on routines and repetition to keep myself on track. Not only does meal planning save money and calories, but it also takes the guess work out of meals for the entire week.
Being on a clean eating diet, it is nearly impossible to find a pre-made jam in the stores that does not contain processed sugar. I decided to take matters into my own hands and boy I’m sure glad I did. BEST. JAM. ON. THE. PLANET. Not only was it healthier with the honey substitute and chia seeds, but it was the best tasting jam I had ever tasted (winning!). I ended up using this jam on everything from PB&J sandwiches to waffles to bruschetta.
